چکیده

The random access channel (RACH) is an uplink shared channel for initial channel access to the network as well as for short data bursts. In this paper, we propose modifications to the RACH preamble for satellite-UMTS using higher order of Hadamard codes, and it is shown that these enhancements have a better performance than that of the current Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) specifications and the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) proposal.

The random early detection concept applied to the W-CDMA UMTS medium access control

In this work we introduce the concept of Random Early Detection (RED) to a medium access control (MAC) protocol applicable to the W-CDMA UMTS access interface. The concept is in general applicable to MAC protocols that use channel load information to regulate the access to a CDMA channel. By making the analogy of a CDMA channel as if it was a queuing system of certain capacity, RED prevents the...

ESA Satellite Wideband CDMA Radio Transmission Technology for the IMT-2000/UMTS Satellite Component: Features & Performance

The recent European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) decision to endorse for the Universal Telecommunication Radio Access ??? (UTRA) techniques based upon wideband-CDMA approaches for terrestrial UMTS (T-UMTS) paired frequency duplexing band will certainly constitute an important driver to orientate the corresponding choice for the satellite UMTS (S-UMTS) component. In this paper i...

Systems engineering of data services in UMTS W-CDMA systems

In this paper we address issues concerning technology selection for non-real time, near real time and interactive data services for 3G W-CDMA systems. Specifically, we compare the packet mode of operation with the circuit mode of operation in UMTS W-CDMA. We show that the use of packet channels such as the Common Packet Channel (CPCH) and Forward Access Channel (FACH) lead to an order of magnit...

Wide-band CDMA for the UMTS/IMT-2000 satellite component

This paper describes the main aspects relevant to the development of a third-generation radio transmission technology (RTT) concept identified as satellite wide-band CDMA (SW-CDMA), which has been accepted [1] by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) as one of the possible RTTs for the satellite component of International Mobile Telecommunications-2000 (IMT-2000). The main outcomes o...

Performance Assessment of the “Blind MOE” CDMA Interference-Mitigation Technique in a Realistic S-UMTS Environment

The paper presents the main results of a comprehensive computer simulations campaign aiming at verifying the applicability and usefulness of a particularly promising linear Multi-User Detection (MUD) technique: the socalled “blind MOE” (Minimum Output Energy) scheme. This scheme was shown to be a potentially very attractive solution for mitigating MAI in CDMA systems [1]. The work here reported...
